Western Titans BMX Club was formed in May 2006 to provide structured BMX racing activities at the track in Clydebank.

Our new BMX track was built in 2005, in response to a request from members of West Dunbartonshire Youth. Alan McMullen from The Environment Trust was instrumental in securing funding to build the track and The Environment Trust are still actively involved in working with Western Titans to maintain and develop the facilities at the track. The track hosted its first Open Race on 20 August 2005, and was officially opened by British Cycling track star, and former BMXer, Craig McLean. Western Titans has held an open race each year since, usually in August or September.

The club agreed on a set of rules called a constitution which can be read here.

There was a track at our location back in the eighties, although the layout was different. Here’s our club chairman, Kenny Scullion, showing the locals how it’s done on his beloved MRD frame. Funnily enough, the remains of the old track can still be seen on Google maps.

About our club leaders

Kenny Scullion (chairman) started BMX around 1981 and has been involved in every aspect of BMX riding. Kenny lives in Balloch and was a regular rider at the original BMX track (see pic above). A few of the old jumps still remain next to the new track. Kenny enjoys helping new riders develop their skills and become better racers. Kenny is responsible for the overall running of the club, from organising races to sweeping the track. His 10 year old daughter, Leah, also takes part in racing at the track and around the UK.

Kenny Hunter (secretary) also started BMX in 1981, and came third in the first Scottish National in 1983. He also joined the famous Scotia freestyle team and performed at several demos. On 14 May 1985, he jumped 4 cars at Meadowbank Stadium. Kenny continued BMX racing and freestyle through the nineties, although nowadays he is concentrating on racing. As club secretary, Kenny is responsible for all the club’s administration, marketing and all the boring stuff that needs doing. His son, Kade (5) and daughter, Harley (10) also take part in racing at the track and around the UK. Kenny was recently interviewed by the The Herald, click here to read the article.

Niall Craig (media director) has been into BMX for many years, as well as being active in other forms of cycling. Niall has now got himself a new BMX so expect to see him on the track giving his all! Niall will be taking photographs at our races and practice sessions, some of which will appear on the Titan's website, so make sure your race gear is always clean! Niall will also film some of the races, so you'll be able to watch your races online, and show your friends and family how cool BMX racing is. His two sons, Louie (9) and Reece (6) also take part in racing at the track.

Stuart McIntosh (race director) has been riding BMX for many years too. He has also bought himself a new BMX racing bike so will be getting back into some racing at the track. Stuart will be responsible for running our race series, taking control of the start gate, and making sure everyone is ready to race.
